Get Visible! Three Steps to Being Seen Everywhere by guest author Ellen Britt.
A few days ago, not one, but two of my colleagues asked me the very same question: “Ellen, how do you do it? It seems like lately, I see you everywhere!”
As a coach, consultant or other service provider, you know that visibility is essential to your business success. You can have the best product or service in the world, but if people don’t know you’re there, you and your business are literally going nowhere. So…
I’m going to outline a simple, three-pronged systematic approach to skyrocketing your visibility in your marketplace that I like to call The Three C’s.
Number One – Claim your expertise: with all the talk lately about finding your niche, you would think this one would already have been done. But surprisingly, even though you may have already staked your claim on a particular niche, you have likely not placed that same claim on your expertise.
Many women entrepreneurs in particular, have a lot of difficulty doing this. They hide out behind such excuses as “I don’t know enough,” or “I don’t have enough experience,” or “I’m not certified in that.” In reality they are waiting on someone else to proclaim them as an expert.
Well if that’s you, I’ve got bad news…you are going to wait a very long time!
The good news is that you don’t have to wait. You can claim your expertise this very minute. Refer to yourself as an expert in your interviews, your articles and your bio. As you step into your power in this area, others will soon see you as an expert too.
Number Two – Cultivate your virtual presence: Provided your target market is online (and these days, that is very, very likely), begin to establish your online visibility.
There are literally dozens of ways to increase your virtual footprint, but It goes without saying you should at least have Twitter and Facebook accounts, and if your audience is a corporate one, possibly a LinkedIn account as well. If you already have those set up, are you really using them to their full advantage?
There should not be a day that goes by without you posting something of value on both Twitter and Facebook, preferably more like several times a day. Facebook just reached a remarkable milestone in its number of users, so take advantage of this. The ease with which you can get noticed on these social platforms is truly astounding!
Number Three – Capture the moment at live events. Haven’t I told you already that you have to get out more?! All kidding aside, there is no substitute for going to live events. I’ve already written elsewhere about the numerous advantages of attending live events, but most people get it wrong.
They attend the event, hopefully learn some good information, do a little networking, and it’s over.
Instead, use the live event as a platform to increase your visibility. Always carry a camera, and get your picture taken with speakers, the event organizer and other guests. Post those pictures to Facebook and the online picture sharing site, Flickr and tag them appropriately,
Tweet about your experience live from the event, using the Twitter handles of the speakers or other recognizable guests in your niche in your tweets and the hastag of the event, if there is one.
If you have a portable camera, such as a FlipCam, consider doing some live, on-the-spot interviews from the event and posting them to YouTube and to your blog. Or if you don’t have a video camera, use an instant podcast service such as AudioBoo to get your message out and give your followers a sense of being there with you.
When you get back home, do follow-up blogs posts, and catch up with people you met at the event by posting to their Facebook pages and Tweeting about them.
So no more hiding out! Simply use the Three C’s to get yourself known. Soon everyone will be saying, “I see you everywhere!”
