I dug into my analytics to find the ten online marketing articles that got the most page views and comments during 2012. Those two metrics are generally a good indication of the types of content your readers enjoy the most and from which they get the most value.

Why should you create a year-end Top Ten list?

Adds more value for your audience

New and long-time subscribers may have missed earlier popular posts

Refocuses visibility on your best content

Reveals trends about what your readers like

Readers love list posts and usually share them with their networks

I’ve created the Top Ten list on List.ly so you can vote on your favorite of the ten posts, comment, share and embed the list on your own blog, if you wish.

[listly id=”2kg” theme=”light” layout=”full” numbered=”yes” image=”yes” items=”all”]

Did you write a Top Ten List of Popular Posts? Please share a link to your post in the comments below so we can check out what you created in 2012!

Unfortunately, the quality of the audio was not up to snuff so I did not post it. However, I did get it transcribed.

As I was editing the transcript [lots of inaudibles] I was highlighting tips and quotes I thought were particularly useful and relevant. Then, I realized the quotes would make a great list!

While I have pulled out my selection of the top tips and quotes about Listly from the interview with Nick Kellet, he covered much more than what I’ve put in the list. Included at the bottom of the post is a pdf of the entire interview which also includes links to many popular lists Nick mentioned. You’re invited to add your own favorite quotes or tips about using Listly that you find in the interview!

[listly id=”2d2″ theme=”light” layout=”full” numbered=”yes” image=”yes” items=”all”]

And, here’s the text of Nick’s interview…

[wpdm_file id=3]

Remember, if you find a tip or quote that “speaks” to you, add it to the list! [Scroll to the top of the list and click on the pink tab that says “Add to List.”

I don't know what's more popular when it comes to blog post styles: how to's or list posts.

What I do know is that your readers probably love list posts as much as any other audience and thanks to Tom Treanor of Right Mix Marketing, I discovered a fabulous tool for creating lists that is easy to use and can create a lot of visibility for you and anyone else you care to share the spotlight with on your blog.

List.ly is a social curation tool that enables you to quickly build a dynamic list of links that can be embedded on your blog. You get visibility when others embed your list on their blog, when it's shared and when you allow others to add items to your list.

I set up a list a couple of days ago and as of the time of writing this post, it is trending #3 on the List.ly home page. And that's before I posted it on this blog.

To be totally transparent, I did post a link to the list in my LinkedIn group, on my Facebook page and on Twitter. I also invited anyone who had written an article about driving traffic to a blog or website to contribute to the list.

This is what crowdsourcing is all about. Create valuable content featuring contributions from many smart people. It's a win-win-win: for your audience who gets to take a deep dive on a subject, for your curators who get visibility on your blog and everywhere the list is shared, and you who get to share great content and get more visibility when your curators and others share the post with their audience.

Here's the list I've started on Top Tips for Driving Traffic to Your Blog:

[listly id=1XJ layout=full]

You're invited to contribute a link to an article you've written about driving blog traffic, or one you've read and think is great. Click on the pink tab at the top of the list. And please share the list, as well. There are many excellent tips featured on the list!

If you have created a list on List.ly, you're welcome to post a link to it here in the comments. Would love to see what kind of lists are being created!
