How to Develop Ideas and Expand Your Content

By Ann Smarty

I saw a really interesting statistic on OrbitMedia recently. According to a study, they found that it now takes 65% more time to write a blog post than it did back in 2014. That is more than three hours per piece of content, quite a chunk of time. The reasoning behind this can be argued but I personally think it shows the care that is being put into those blog posts in order to compete with others.

Think about it, what did we see a lot of in the early days of online content marketing? I know clear back into 2014 I was still witnessing a shocking number of spun articles and keyword-stuffed blog posts. The algorithm was changing but old tactics were still being used by less reliable sources.

Sleep has been on my mind. In the Inner Fire program that Dr. Ellen Britt and I recently ran, one topic was how to optimize your sleep. I mentioned I was experimenting with blue light blocking glasses since blue light can have a detrimental effect on your vision and sleep.

I was feeling the anxiety of so many colleagues and clients as we grapple with doing … maintaining … business in the age of coronavirus. Many people I know are suffering from a sudden drop in business. Clients deciding to pull back until life becomes certain again.

How could I address this unease?

Morning Meditation in the Age of Covid-19

After my morning meditation, I was feeling reluctant to get up and face the day. I started thinking about the anxiety I’m feeling from clients and members of my various communities. There is an underlying, and overt, feeling of “what happens now?

“Will my business survive?

How will I make enough money to pay my bills?

Is my work even needed in this current environment?

I have these feelings too. My marriage and first business both failed after 9/11. I was remembering that this morning. That event triggered a huge pain and upheaval in my life as it did for so many others.

This one feels different though. Bigger. Even more uncertain.

On Friday evening, July 6, 2019, we were rockin’ and rollin’ in California. Even though L.A. is 150 miles southwest of the epicenter in Ridgecrest, the earthquake rocked us. It’s been quite a while since I experienced an earthquake. It made me grateful that my apartment building had gone through an earthquake retrofit last year!

Here are 5 things I read and watched this past week:
