In this episode of Adventures in Visibility, I welcome back my go-to expert Stephan Hovnanian to tell you about yet another change to the Google Plus platform. [Note: Stephan and MaAnna Stephenson of BlogAid were guest experts on a free webinar I hosted about Google Plus which you can get here.]
You will learn the new ramifications of using the +1 button. By implementing a very simple tactic you can increase engagement on G+, find new connections and get more visibility.
Scroll down to post your comments and questions below. We’ll be monitoring them throughout the Hangout and post-hangout to get your Google+ questions answered.

I did a small experiment with the +1 of Google+ with one of my blog ..i experienced a slight increase in the traffic .Google plus is as effective( in getting traffic) as other social networking sites …isn’t it?

This is a logistical question. I am viewing using the latest version of Firefox and on my screen Denise’s feed is broken up and a little jerky while Stephan’s is clear.
Is there something specific that can be done to be sure that your feed is clear?
Thank You for the useful information!

Corrinda, I’ve been having problems with my Internet connection so that could have been the problem. Past Hangouts were not as broken up. Unfortunately, that’s not something I can control. My computer was connected with a hard connection vs. wifi which generally helps. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the reply, it’s always good to remember there are some things not directly in our control and that during webinar presentations it’s a good idea to have a wired connection. Great information thank you again.

Thanks for hosting this Denise! As soon as I saw +Stephan Hovnanian was presenting I signed up and shared this with some colleagues. I really enjoyed his portion of the last Google+ webinar you had. He has a great way of explaining things!

Aw thanks Jennifer, I appreciate that! I hope this helped explain why this new feature is important!

Hi,
Is it best to have a +Profile specifically for a business so that it is easier to control your +1s and shares?
And what is the different impact using a Public over an Enhanced Circles share? Should you craft content which is different depending on your type of share?
Cheers. Andrew.
Stephan Hovnanian
Hi Andrew,
If it were me, I’d advocate a +Page that has its own Google Account (so it has a login & password, which is the next step after you create a +Page from your +Profile). That way, it can operate independently and you can assign page managers to help with the workflow.
A +Page without the login isn’t going to be as easy to work with because of the way the browser and session cookies work. I find myself reverting back to my +Profile when I’ve “switched” to my +Pages that don’t have their own Account, and navigate to a new tab or even paste a URL into the tab that has the +Page as the active identity.
As to the question about Public vs. Extended Circles…I just posted an explanation of the reach each of them has. And I do think that once you can understand the potential reach your +1 recommendations have, you will be better informed on whether you want to use them as “high fives” or something more authoritative. But ultimately it’s up to you why you would want to hand out a +1 on a post.
