How to Package, Promote and Profit from Your Expertise #BWELA

This past weekend I attended and spoke at the 5th annual BlogWorld and New Media Expo in Los Angeles. I had the good fortune to present a session in the Monetization track with my good friend Rich Brooks from flyte.biz

Our topic was Hey Bloggers! How to Package, Promote and Profit from Your Expertise. To augment the session, we put together a list of many of the sites and resources we use to create products from our blog content and expertise.

Resource list (including slide deck)

Three wonderful bloggers who attended the session took notes and posted them:

Nicole Avery on Blog Coaching Boost

Andrea Vahl aka Grandma Mary on AndreaVahl.com (You'll see a crazy, silly interview with me and Grandma Mary at the top of the page. Scroll down for the session notes.)

Kristi Hines on Kikolani

As quite a few speakers noted in their presentations, if you're not generating revenue, then what you're doing is just a hobby.  Darren Rowse in his session on Blogging with Heart (but Smart), made the point several times that you must think of your blog as a business and you must "create something to sell." In the last 2 years Darren has created 13 ebooks for his two brands: Problogger and Digital Photography School. He's created multiple streams of income for his business.

If you have questions about how to turn your expertise into products and add more profit to your business, let's talk!

Are you phoning it in?

Really, are you fully and totally present when you're interacting with your community on and offline? Or, are you going through the motions, fully automated and disconnected?

I ask because I was confronted with that question last week during Brendon Burchard's four day Experts Academy live event. My awesome friend Kathleen Gage invited me to attend the event as her guest and initially I was luke warm about spending four full (12-13 hour days!) at a marketing event.

I feel like I've "been there, done that". After all, I've been working and marketing on the Web since 1996.

Then, I was confronted with Brendon's outstanding level of energy, focus, attention and complete, never-wavering presence. I set aside my skepticism, sat up and started to really listen and absorb what Brendon was saying about what it takes to be an expert in your niche. He credits much of his success to his abilty to be completely present in every activity and encounter. And, I believe it after seeing him in action.

I realized I haven't been giving you the very best me for some time…I've been phoning it in, to a degree. And that makes me feel awful.

3 Simple Keys to More Profits, Less Stress and More Visibility

Building your business and growing it to support the lifestyle you want is the whole point of becoming an entrepreneur.

The first step in doing so is to define what success means for you.  Perhaps it means that you work a certain schedule. Have the ability to travel extensively. Instead, focus your efforts on bringing your vision of success to life! This means taking action to works towards your goal.

Remember this quote:
“There is something more important than believing; ACTION! The world is full of dreamers.  Those who are successful will move ahead and begin to take concrete steps to ACTUALIZE their vision” (- Unknown).
In order to build your business, you will need to do just a few things very well:

1. Market Consistently:  This can be a challenge when the majority of your time is spent working with clients and running your company. You'll get the best results by focusing your efforts on just a few strategies that fit your target market and your goals…

Why in the world would someone pay you for your knowledge?

Get Paid for Your KnowledgeRecently I received an email from a woman who has been in her industry for over 20 years. She is definitely an expert, extremely accomplished and highly respected in her industry.

Her inquiry was about who to offer membership programs to. Initially she thought of her market; her customers, but said it just doesn’t feel like this is the answer. I didn’t hesitate to agree with her.

Who’s the best fit

The fact is, your current customers may not be the best fit for your membership program. Rather, it could be others in your industry who view you as an expert and are willing to pay to learn from you.

Let’s say you are an extremely successful artist. Your art clients may not be a good fit for a membership program, but other artists are.

Perhaps you never considered this side of membership programs – training your peers. This is actually one of the best choices for a membership program

Do you know what you know?
