When I started my first business blog in 2004, there wasn’t much in the way of social media available to help promote blog posts. The best way to get your blog post shared was to encourage readers to subscribe to your blog update email list and then forward the email.
Today, it’s a different story. Yet, during consults with clients, I’m frequently asked how to get more traffic and visitors to new blog posts. The infographic below, created by Ian Cleary of RazorSocial and Canva, will help.
There is a belief by many online entrepreneurs that they cannot share their own posts. WRONG! Yes, I’m saying that if you believe that, it’s wrong. You can and should share your blog posts. Don’t wait and hope others will share it for you. Start the ball rolling…
When you launch a blog post, share it automatically to your social media channels. via @IanCleary.The first thing you need to do after publishing your post is to use the social sharing buttons on the post, to share with your own social networks. It’s OK. The blog promotion police won’t come after you, I promise.
One of the sharing tools Ian Cleary recommends is Triberr. I agree and also recommend Social Buzz Club. Both are communities of bloggers that rely on reciprocity among members with complementary subjects, to share content and drive traffic.
I’m a member of both sites and get dozens of shares and lots of traffic from the communities. If you’re interested in joining my Online Visibility Tribe on Triberr, let me know in the comments and I’ll invite you.
Now it’s your turn. What your top tip for getting your blog posts shared?
Shon Chris
I practice this all the time with my niche blogs. Usually I start off sharing & promoting posts using services like JustRetweet, Triberr & Viral Content Buzz.
I also feed the content to my Facebook & Twitter accounts which adds even more traction.
Pinterest is also another superb way of distributing/sharing your blog content especially where there is some kind of strong visual component woven in.
My objective is to combine as many strategies as possible in a cohesive fashion to increase the odds of achieving ‘mindshare’ first.
Once the reader is TRULY engaged, the chances of your content being shared are dramatically increased.

This is just such a good piece. It’s so easy to forget about past content as I’m always so focused on the other parts of my business, but it’s true! Good stuff should be shared again!
Thanks again for this awesome post. Cheers!

Denise,
Thanks for sharing this (and great post, Ian.). we have never ‘started the ball rolling’ with our shares, thinking that that would be frowned upon. Such a simple idea, and we had automatically steered away from it! Guess how we are spending the day!

Hi Denise,
Absolute fab IG. Ian nailed it.
I’d add that sharing posts 2-3 times daily on the first day, and subsequently once on following days boost those share counts too.
That month later blitz also does wonders; people from all over the world with busy schedules might not be exposed to your work until months later. Share freely to boost social shares.
Thanks much. I’ll bet tweeting this through Triberr.

Hi Ryan, thanks for your comment. Do you share 2-3 times daily on all your social networks? Or just Twitter?
Thanks also for the share via Triberr!

Yes! I’d love to join your Triberr tribe. I need to get active there. And totally agree about promoting your own posts.
